I taught myself HTML back in the mid-nineties and was proud of the fact that I was able to accomplish the design of fairly complex web pages with nothing more than a starter HTML book, an HTML reference book, and the knowledge I had stored in my head. But back in those days, we web designers had what looking back was a fairly limited amount of tools with which to work, and the quality (or lack thereof) of sites on the web was lackluster at
best.

Let’s unlock a little bit of the mystery about something called CGI. If it helps any, CGI means Common Gateway Interface. This is a method which is used to exchange data between the server (the hardware and software that actually allows you to get to your web site) and a web client (your browser). CGI is actually a set of standards where a program or script (a series of commands) can send data back to the web server where it can be processed.

Typically, you use standard HTML tags to get data from a person, then pass that data to a CGI routine. The CGI routine then performs some action with the data.

Quality 1: Content is Still King

I know it’s cliché, but sometimes there actually is a good reason for an expression making it to cliché status. This is one of those times.

There are seemingly limitless bells, whistles, gadgets, and technologies to use in a website now a days. Sometimes, used correctly, they can enhance your websites. Unfortunately however, all to often, they overshadow the purpose of the site and cause more harm than good.
